Gilbert Andugu, AFC Leopards Secretary-General, has passed on, family members have revealed.

Andugu has been missing in action for the last week following his admission to a hospital in Kitengela. His family didn’t divulge his cause of death. However, close sources say that he had been getting medical treatment since last year.

He was in and out of hospital.  AFC football fans and the club eulogised the deceased, stating that he leaves a big gap in office.

In a statement, AFC Leopards said that Andugu, 43, served the club selflessly and was committed to its development. He was elected the secretary-general in June 2022.

The deceased AFC Secretary-General Gilbert Andugu was a marketer by profession but loved football passionately.  He oversaw AFC’s operations back in 2015 in Mombasa.

He is credited with increasing the club’s fan base and membership in Mombasa, where he headed AFC Leopards coast branch. His efforts paid off far away from the coast.

His club’s campaign to finance AFC Leopards Cub in Nairobi became a reality. Fans and club insiders said he won the secretary-general’s post due to his development record.

He succeeded Oliver Sikuku, who had served two terms in office. AFC remembers Andugu for his commitment and great organisational skills while he served as the overall head of all AFC Leopards branches.

Andugu was focused on the club’s growth. He introduced a raft of improvements, mostly touching on human resources.

His dream was to increase staff morale and efficiency. He believed that a motivated club secretariat would motivate players to perform better.

He had announced earlier that he wouldn’t defend his seat for a second term in office. AFC Leopards will hold their general club elections on June 29.
